Greek Islands: Crete & the Dodecanese Ports

The Dodecanese islands hug the Turkish coast and carry layers of Greek, Roman, crusader and Ottoman history, while Crete holds the remains of Europe’s oldest palace civilization. Walled old towns sit near the piers, so many of the best walks start almost as soon as you step ashore.

Greek Islands: Crete & the Dodecanese — FAQ

Can I see Knossos from either Cretan port?

Heraklion is the port for Knossos, which is only a short drive away. From Souda Bay near Chania it is a much longer trip, so passengers calling there usually focus on Chania’s Venetian harbor and the west of the island.

Is Lindos reachable from the Rhodes cruise port?

Yes. Lindos and its clifftop acropolis are about an hour’s drive down the east coast, and many tours combine it with a walk through the medieval Old Town in Rhodes.
